Artist Statement

I create work from all facets of my life. As a painter, mother, physician and observer of our natural world, I weave together these experiences in my paintings. My work engages the viewers’ attention by allowing them to spend a few moments not in the digital, but in the physical experiential realm.

Today, communing with nature is being reduced in our digital world as too many of us engage with our natural environment on the go- through our phones reducing our daily rhythm to bytes instead of time-based experiences.

The Canadian Rockies dominated my youth and the rawness and realization that nature can be calming, frightening, rejuvenating and soothing all at once continues to influence my practice. Time, with its inevitable cycles seems more tangible in the wilderness. My work brings these emotions experienced in nature to the experience of intentional looking.

Using a variety of mediums in these abstract paintings, I paint the cyclical complex world and the range of emotions it generates promoting space for thought. This close looking is a type of mindfulness, that presents the necessary time to breathe in the painting as part of the magic and healing properties of available through art.
